Single Women and Men can Change the Lives of Arizona Foster Children

Over 13,000 Arizona foster children are living in foster care right now, and over 400,000 children are living in foster care in the United States. Unfortunately, foster children move an average of 4 – 6 times per year from foster home to foster home. This means vulnerable children can’t develop loving, stable relationships, and they often switch schools when they move as well.  That’s not counting the number of children who enter foster care and are sent back home only to re-enter the system again within the same year as a result of dangerous abuse and/or neglect.  The end result of all of this movement is that foster children, who are already traumatized as a result of abuse, grow up without the healing love of a family.  If the children “age out” of the system at 18, having never been adopted, they are at a much higher risk of drug use, homelessness, and mental health issues.

The need for loving forever families is urgent.  Married couples and single people alike can be eligible to adopt children in foster care. These children who have already suffered so much are in desperate need of loving, stable homes where they can grow to become confident and successful adults.

Single Applicants are Encouraged to Adopt Arizona Foster Children

Single men and women can adopt Arizona foster children. An individual living in Arizona does not need to be foster care certified to adopt foster children in Arizona.  They can be certified to adopt through a successful home study. For approximately six months, the child will be welcomed into the home and then can be legally adopted. Learn more about the requirements to adopt Arizona foster children HERE.

The majority of foster children are five years of age or older. In some cases, younger children are available to be adopted. There are also sibling groups or children who have a higher level of need who are waiting to be adopted. All children in the foster system deserve to feel the stability and love of a forever family. We Need Men and Women to Make a Difference in the Lives of Foster Children in Arizona

Foster children need reliable and safe adults to help turn their life away from loneliness, abuse, and/or neglect. Foster children can have difficult times forming and creating bonds with safe and supportive adults. Parents don’t have to be perfect, but they have to be safe and loving to help a foster child heal and grow into a life of purpose and trust.

THREE SETS OF VICTIMS AND WHAT TO DO NEXT

PAUL PETERSEN’S PROMISES OF A BETTER LIFE

Pregnant women from the Marshall Islands were treated like property. Often these women did not even have a bed to sleep on, and many were paid off on the day of birth to give their babies away.

ADOPTIVE FAMILIES AND NEWBORN BABIES

Adoptive families were promised legal adoptions of babies from the Marshall Islands. Luckily, for the time being, it appears that Marshall Islands adoptions facilitated by Paul Petersen will not be overturned.

Let’s hope not. And then there is the baby.  If their mother had not been paid handsomely to give them away at birth, would they have been given up for adoption?

HOW TO PROTECT ARIZONA FAMILIES

According to Kelly Rourke-Scarry, M.Ed., co-founder, President and CEO of Building Arizona Families, Arizona’s largest adoption agency, there are key criteria adoptive families should investigate before adopting.

The most important criteria for international adoption is Hague accreditation.
In the United States, international adoptions should be processed through a Hague accredited adoption agency to prevent abduction, sale, and trafficking of children. This is a rigorous accreditation process to protect the integrity of the adoption process.

Arizona adoption agencies should also state licensed.  They should be transparent about all adoption costs.  Relationships between birth mothers and adoptive families should be mutually agreed upon.  An adoption caseworker should be present to ensure that the best interests of the baby are protected at all costs.

ABOUT KELLY ROURKE-SCARRY, M.Ed., PRESIDENT & CEO OF BUILDING ARIZONA FAMILIES

Kelly Rourke-Scarry was adopted.  She is passionate about making sure that adoptions are in the best interest of the three parties involved in an adoption.  Mrs. Rourke-Scarry is available for interviews to discuss best practices to protect birth mothers, newborn babies, and Arizona’s adoptive families.  Mrs. Rourke-Scarry also hosts a podcast called “Birth Mother Matters” to educate society regarding adoption issues.

Adopt Foster Children in Arizona to Start a Momentous School Year

The start of the new school year is here, and many kids are excitedly starting this new adventure. Shopping for new school clothes and supplies, meeting new friends, and learning new things is what most kids are thinking about at the beginning of the school year. Unfortunately, every year there are foster children scared of a new start, maybe wearing old clothes or not prepared with supplies. Every child deserves to enjoy these milestone moments.  Adopting foster children in Arizona can provide the stability, security, and loving support needed to be successful in school.

Children Shouldn’t Start the School Year Off Scared and Alone

The first day of school can make any child nervous. Imagine showing up on the first day of school without the love and support from a parent or the security of a stable home. Foster children change homes/schools on average one to two times per year, losing on average 4-6 months of academic progress each time.  When they move foster homes, they often carry all of their worldly possessions in a plastic garbage bag. They have already faced negativity, loneliness, abuse and/or neglect. Without a loving and supportive home, foster children are not prepared for school, causing them to struggle considerably. This is why it is so important for our communities to step up and adopt Arizona foster children. A forever home changes a foster child’s entire life, providing a stable foundation for a flourishing future.

Students Can Flourish When Adopted Into a Stable and Supportive Forever Home

Statistics illustrate a correlation between the length of time a child remains in foster care and how far behind they fall in school.  Kids in foster care are twice as likely to develop learning disabilities and six times more likely to have behavioral problems. Adopting foster children provides the safe home, loving and supportive family, and stability children need to succeed academically. These environmental benefits allow a child adopted from foster care the opportunity to flourish and exceed their expectations for their life.

For kids living in group homes, starting a new school year without new supplies, good clothes, or a forever family adds so much stress and anxiety to their young lives. A foster child’s future path is limited to what is available to them. When a family decides to adopt foster children, they are blessing a child with the opportunity to have success and love.

Celebrity Advocates Bring Attention on Foster to Adopt in AZ

What was the last thing you saw a celebrity advocate for in the media? There are many organizations, charities, and awareness movements that celebrities support. Foster care may have not previously had the attention it deserved, but recently, celebrities are taking a stand for children in foster care. The decline of foster families in Arizona is creating bed shortages for kids and teens. There is more to the story, however. These children deserve more than a foster family; they deserve a loving forever family and a healthy and happy home. Many people are unaware that the foster to adopt Arizona children process is unnecessary. Arizona’s foster children whose parental rights are severed can be directly adopted without the need to be a licensed foster family first. Hopefully, with celebrity awareness and the education around the cause, more foster kids can begin to find solace with a loving family in a forever home.

Raising Awareness in The Media Can Begin To Change Foster Kid’s Lives

The media can be very influential and raise awareness for important topics, like the hardships foster kids experience in the foster care system. Organizations are launching educational campaigns to find forever homes for children and to bring to light the harsh realities of what happens when a foster child ages out of the system without ever being adopted. Research illustrates that these children are at a much greater risk for homelessness, incarceration, drug abuse, mental illness and unemployment.

Ellen DeGeneres, a talk show host, recently brought awareness to the challenges of foster care and adopting foster children. Several families were featured on the Ellen DeGeneres Show to talk about their journeys of adopting foster kids. They spoke of the beauty of their adoptions and encouraged other families to provide a safe and healthy forever home for children who have already suffered so much.

Celebrities That Struggled In Foster Care Now Advocate For Foster Kids

Celebrities come from all walks of life and many have struggled through the foster care system, just like the 13,400 foster kids in the Arizona foster care system today. Actors and athletes are raising awareness about the need for adoption for foster kids of all ages. Alex Smith, Kurt Warner, Tony Goldwin, and Ellen DeGeneres are some of the actors and athletes lending their voices to the cause. Dorian Green-Beckham, Tennessee Titans wide receiver, has opened up about his experience aging out of the foster care system. He speaks of the struggles of growing up without support and love and how he was not ready to face the world alone at the age of 18. The testaments from former foster kids can show how crucial adoption is for vulnerable children. Fostering children is a wonderful gift to a child and many foster families move from foster to adopt AZ children. However it is not necessary – children can be adopted without fostering them first through the home study process. Adoption is beautiful – it transforms a frightened, lonely child into a secure, loving family member.

Adopting Arizona Foster Children Will Give Them a Summer to Remember

Summer is here! Children and teens all over Arizona are beating the heat with fun pool parties, enjoying their time off school with friends, and making new memories on family summer vacations. Sadly, there are thousands of children and teens unable to enjoy these special moments during their summer vacation. Adopting Arizona foster children can change a child’s life forever and give them a summer to remember!

Summer Vacation Doesn’t Always Bring Fun and Relaxation for Arizona Foster Children

Kids of all ages count down the days until summer vacation begins and they get to enjoy the fun, adventure, and memories it brings. Too many children, however, are not able to enjoy these summer months like their peers because they are living in foster homes. Arizona foster children are frequently being moved, changing schools, and unable to partake in summer getaways without approval from a caseworker. Enjoying summer camps, music lessons, sports, and vacations are just dreamed about for many foster children. Giving a foster child a forever family can begin cherished childhood traditions they only dream about and will bring their life joy and remarkable moments that will forever be a blessing.

Finding Happiness, Love, and Traditions with a Forever Family

Never knowing where you are going to live or what family will be caring for you is the life Arizona foster children face. If they are fortunate enough to find their forever family, they can begin a life of happiness and love. A foster child’s life changes from lonely and colorless to happy and purposeful when they find their forever family. A permanent home, family traditions, and freedom is what children all over the country wish for every day, and you can help these children by adopting Arizona foster children!

Did your family have a yearly summer vacation you excitedly waited for? Were there traditions that you still remember to this day or have continued? So many families enjoy these moments together, embracing the love and family around them. Many foster children will never experience anything like this in their lifetime. Almost 20,000 teens exited foster care last year without ever finding a family and were thrown into adulthood. These children now face a life of homelessness, mental illness, and high rates of addiction because they do not have a family and are in this world alone.

Blessing a child with beautiful traditions and precious family time creates a world unlike anything they’ve known before, and they can create new ones with you! Every child deserves to feel special and cared for. With open hearts and open arms, we can save these children from the life they are living and provide the future they deserve through adoption.

Building Arizona Families Encourages Us to Adopt Foster Children

Children enter foster care through no fault of their own because of abuse and/or neglect. They need your help! Building Arizona Families is privileged to help Arizona families seeking to adopt foster children throughout the United States. Our mission is to find adoptive homes for as many children in foster care as we possibly can. Loving forever families provide a beautiful life for a child in need through adopting foster children. Every child needs a home full of love, warmth, and support. Blessing a vulnerable foster child with a  safe home and loving family can inspire others to do the same.

Each year, over 20,000 children in foster care age out of the system without a permanent family. After leaving foster care at 18 years old, these children continue to face abuse and neglect in their lives. Families are stepping up and changing some of these children’s lives every day, and we need more families just like them to adopt foster children and give them a brighter future full of love and opportunity.

Building Arizona Families is Changing Lives

Adopt foster children

There are many beautiful adoption stories Building Arizona Families can share. Arizona families are brought closer together by choosing to open their lives to adopt foster children. Jessica and Chris were one of these families to step up for a foster child desperately wishing for a safe, loving forever family. They welcomed Raiden lovingly into their home and gave him the security and identity of a loving family that he had never known before. This selfless decision changed the course of Raiden’s life. He will grow up secure in the love of family, which will launch him into a bright future.  Watch Raiden’s story HERE.

Children in the foster care system are just children – they haven’t done anything wrong.  They desperately want love, acceptance, and to be treated like they matter. They don’t want to move from place to place with their belongings in a garbage bag.  They don’t want to have to keep switching schools.  They want bicycles, pets, and to get to go to a ball game or the movies.  They want to be treated like children who have families that love them. With close to 500,000 children still in foster care in the United States, the need is urgent. Building Arizona Families wants to find as many of these children forever homes before they age out and no longer have the chance.

Foster Children Are Just Children Wanting Love and Acceptance

How To Save A Child’s Life During National Child Abuse Prevention Month

There are thousands of Arizona children in desperate need of love and support. Through no fault of their own, they have experienced heartbreaking abuse and/or neglect. No child should ever have to endure the pain and sadness of being abused by the person who is supposed to love and care for them. Foster to adopt in AZ gives these children a chance at life and a forever family to love them always.

National Child Abuse Prevention Month raises public awareness during April to increase the efforts and resources necessary to protect children from abuse. Awareness regarding how to help protect and nurture vulnerable children in our own communities can truly save a child’s life.

Why They Need Heroes Now

In January 2019, it was reported that over 14,500 children are in the Arizona foster care system. The majority of these children are victims of gross negligence, physical abuse, sexual abuse, emotional abuse, or trafficking. Sadly, this maltreatment usually occurs through the hand of someone they know. Physical, sexual, and emotional abuse can cause severe pain, delayed development, and significant behavioral issues.

Once these abused and/or neglected children are taken into state care, it does not mean their troubles are over. In 2017, it was reported that at the national level, 75% of children in foster care are neglected, 18% are physically abused, and 7% are sexually abused.

This is horrific and does not even take into consideration that the average foster child will move from where they live 4-5 times, and change schools at least once a year. It is no wonder that they are more at risk for teen pregnancy, homelessness, PTSD, and poor educational outcomes.

This is happening in our neighborhoods, right now. It’s why children in Arizona need you now. They need heroes to save them from the bleak outcomes they can expect if they stay in the foster care system. Foster children all over Arizona and from around the country are hoping for a loving and caring adult to rescue them and welcome them into a forever family.

How To Be The Answer to A Foster Child’s Prayer

Children who experience abuse and/or neglect need support and love from a caring adult that understands the consequences of their trauma. A child needs to feel safe and needs to feel supported in expressing and managing their intense emotions. Traumatic events can cause a child not to have the ability to cope and have appropriate physical and emotional responses. By helping them, or providing the help they need, children can begin to heal, to develop loving, trusting relationships, and to experience bright futures.

No Need to Foster to Adopt AZ Foster Children

Every Arizona citizen can help make sure every child can grow up in a healthy and stable environment. Building Arizona Families does direct adoption placements for Arizona families. The adoptive family does not need to be foster care certified. Instead, the adoptive family is certified to adopt through a home study. A child, from Arizona or from around the country, can come to live in your home and after six months your family can legally adopt.

Adopting a child out of the foster care system is less expensive than private adoption. The adoption process also moves more quickly.

Can You Be the Answer to a Foster Child’s Prayer?

Building Arizona Families invites you to consider adopting a foster child. Remember, contrary to what many people believe, you do not have to foster to adopt AZ foster children. We will help you walk through the direct adoption of children in the foster care system.

You will be blessed by having a precious child to love, and you will change the life of a foster child forever. If you would like more information on the foster child adoption process, find out more HERE.

Interested in Adopting a Foster Child? Here’s Arizona Child Adoption Process Info

Arizona child adoption process, adopt foster children in Arizona, foster to adopt AZ

If you live in Arizona and are considering adoption, there is some important information you should know about the Arizona child adoption process. Families residing in Arizona are eligible to adopt foster children in Arizona, as well as any other state in the U.S. At any given time in Arizona, there are at least 3,000 children whose parental rights have been severed who are immediately available for adoption. And that is just Arizona! There are foster children of all ages and races, as well as sibling groups and teenagers that are harder to find forever families for. You can search through a national database of foster children who are hoping and praying for forever families HERE.

You Can Foster to Adopt AZ Children But You Don’t Have To!

Many families who want to adopt foster children in Arizona think that they must become licensed foster care families before adopting a foster child. This is not true, and foster children whose parental rights have been severed can be directly adopted. The foster to adopt AZ children process can be helpful from an educational perspective, but fostering a child does not necessarily ensure that you will be able to adopt that child.

Most Cost Effective Program is to Adopt Foster Children in Arizona & Other States

If the costs of adoption are a concern, you will be pleased to know that adopting a foster child is the least expensive type of adoption in the United States. Building Arizona Families’ foster child adoption program is called the Forever Families U.S. Adoption Program. To be eligible to adopt foster children through Building Arizona Families, a family must reside in the state of Arizona. Arizona residents are eligible to adopt foster children in Arizona or any other state in the U.S. The Forever Families U.S. Adoption Program fee is only $3,500. There is an additional $1,100 cost for the home study required by the state of Arizona to certify that the home environment is a safe one. For more information about the Arizona child adoption process including children available, the adoption fee schedule, and time frames, go HERE.

Qualifications Required for the Successful Arizona Child Adoption Process

You might be surprised to know that you don’t have to be married or own your own home to adopt a foster child in Arizona. You must be 21 years of age or older, be morally fit, be physically and mentally healthy, be financially stable, and pass a background test including no court action regarding previous child abuse. Other states may vary in their individual requirements. Please download our complimentary information kit HERE.

Begin the Process to Adopt Foster Children in Arizona

The foster to adopt AZ process is different than the direct adoption of foster children. In either case, however, the State of Arizona requires families to pass a home study that certifies the home environment as a safe one. Do remember that you are not required to foster to adopt AZ foster children – it is your personal preference. The Arizona Department of Child Safety contracts with individual licensing agencies, of which Building Arizona Families is a provider. Go HERE to find out more about the home study process.

Building Arizona Families would be honored to walk with you on your adoption journey.
