The holidays can be a very difficult time of year for children in foster care. They long to be part of a stable forever family and a safe, loving home. Jessica and Chris Filled the Missing Piece in Their Family by Adopting a Foster Child in Arizona

Single Women and Men can Change the Lives of Arizona Foster Children

Over 13,000 Arizona foster children are living in foster care right now, and over 400,000 children are living in foster care in the United States. Unfortunately, foster children move an average of 4 – 6 times per year from foster home to foster home. This means vulnerable children can’t develop loving, stable relationships, and they often switch schools when they move as well. That’s not counting the number of children who enter foster care and are sent back home only to re-enter the system again within the same year as a result of dangerous abuse and/or neglect. The end result of all of this movement is that foster children, who are already traumatized as a result of abuse, grow up without the healing love of a family. If the children “age out” of the system at 18, having never been adopted, they are at a much higher risk of drug use, homelessness, and mental health issues.

The need for loving forever families is urgent. Married couples and single people alike can be eligible to adopt children in foster care. These children who have already suffered so much are in desperate need of loving, stable homes where they can grow to become confident and successful adults.

Single Applicants are Encouraged to Adopt Arizona Foster Children

Single men and women can adopt Arizona foster children. An individual living in Arizona does not need to be foster care certified to adopt foster children in Arizona. They can be certified to adopt through a successful home study. For approximately six months, the child will be welcomed into the home and then can be legally adopted. The majority of foster children are five years of age or older. In some cases, younger children are available to be adopted. The start of the new school year is here, and many kids are excitedly starting this new adventure. Shopping for new school clothes and supplies, meeting new friends, and learning new things is what most kids are thinking about at the beginning of the school year. Unfortunately, every year there are foster children scared of a new start, maybe wearing old clothes or not prepared with supplies. Every child deserves to enjoy these milestone moments. Adopting foster children in Arizona can provide the stability, security, and loving support needed to be successful in school.

The first day of school can make any child nervous. Imagine showing up on the first day of school without the love and support from a parent or the security of a stable home. Celebrity Advocates Bring Attention on Foster to Adopt in AZ

What was the last thing you saw a celebrity advocate for in the media? There are many organizations, charities, and awareness movements that celebrities support. Foster care may have not previously had the attention it deserved, but recently, celebrities are taking a stand for children in foster care. The decline of foster families in Arizona is creating bed shortages for kids and teens. There is more to the story, however. These children deserve more than a foster family; they deserve a loving forever family and a healthy and happy home. Many people are unaware that the foster to adopt Arizona children process is unnecessary. Arizona’s foster children whose parental rights are severed can be directly adopted without the need to be a licensed foster family first. Hopefully, with celebrity awareness and the education around the cause, more foster kids can begin to find solace with a loving family in a forever home.

The media can be very influential and raise awareness for important topics, like the hardships foster kids experience in the foster care system. Dorian Green-Beckham, Tennessee Titans wide receiver, has opened up about his experience aging out of the foster care system. He speaks of the struggles of growing up without support and love and how he was not ready to face the world alone at the age of 18. The testaments from former foster kids can show how crucial adoption is for vulnerable children. Fostering children is a wonderful gift to a child and many foster families move from foster to adopt AZ children. Adoption is beautiful – it transforms a frightened, lonely child into a secure, loving family member.

If you live in Arizona and are considering adoption, there is some important information you should know about the Arizona child adoption process. Families residing in Arizona are eligible to adopt foster children in Arizona, as well as any other state in the U.S. At any given time in Arizona, there are at least 3,000 children whose parental rights have been severed who are immediately available for adoption. And that is just Arizona! There are foster children of all ages and races, as well as sibling groups and teenagers that are harder to find forever families for. You can search through a national database of foster children who are hoping and praying for forever families HERE.

You Can Foster to Adopt AZ Children But You Don’t Have To!

Many families who want to adopt foster children in Arizona think that they must become licensed foster care families before adopting a foster child. This is not true, and foster children whose parental rights have been severed can be directly adopted. The foster to adopt AZ children process can be helpful from an educational perspective, but fostering a child does not necessarily ensure that you will be able to adopt that child.

Most Cost Effective Program is to Adopt Foster Children in Arizona & Other States

If the costs of adoption are a concern, you will be pleased to know that adopting a foster child is the least expensive type of adoption in the United States. Building Arizona Families’ foster child adoption program is called the Forever Families U.S. Adoption Program. To be eligible to adopt foster children through Building Arizona Families, a family must reside in the state of Arizona. Arizona residents are eligible to adopt foster children in Arizona or any other state in the U.S. The Forever Families U.S. Adoption Program fee is only $3,500. There is an additional $1,100 cost for the home study required by the state of Arizona to certify that the home environment is a safe one. Qualifications Required for the Successful Arizona Child Adoption Process

You might be surprised to know that you don’t have to be married or own your own home to adopt a foster child in Arizona. You must be 21 years of age or older, be morally fit, be physically and mentally healthy, be financially stable, and pass a background test including no court action regarding previous child abuse. The foster to adopt AZ process is different than the direct adoption of foster children. In either case, however, the State of Arizona requires families to pass a home study that certifies the home environment as a safe one. Do remember that you are not required to foster to adopt AZ foster children – it is your personal preference. Challenging Misinformation About Arizona Foster Child Adoption Process

There is a lot of information out there about the Arizona foster child adoption process. Some of the information is accurate, and some of it is inaccurate. Building Arizona Families is a licensed Arizona adoption agency that has been specializing in helping Arizona families adopt foster children for over 10 years, with many of the staff having adopted children or been adopted themselves. Because we have a personal connection to the child adoption process, we are passionate about making sure that complete, accurate information is available to families who are interested in adoption. One common misperception is that families must foster to adopt AZ foster children. This is absolutely not accurate. To adopt a foster child, the child adoption process in Arizona does not include the requirement to become foster care certified first. Families can be certified to adopt and move directly though the foster child adoption process without involvement in foster care.

Arizona Foster Child Adoption Process

The foster child adoption process includes choosing a licensed adoption agency that is a match for your family’s needs and has your best interests at heart. An application will then be required. Once reviewed and accepted, the next step is a home study, which evaluates the environment the child will be raised in to meet state requirements. There is a selection process to identify the foster children you believe are a match for your family. Once those foster child adoption selection parameters are agreed upon, you will wait to be selected and for a placement. The child or children will come to live in your home for approximately six months, and if the placement is a match, your family can proceed to legal adoption.

Foster Child Adoption Costs

One of the benefits of adopting a foster child is that the adoption cost is much lower than other types of adoption. There are thousands of foster children in Arizona whose parental rights have been severed. This means that these precious children are legally available for adoption. Additionally, Arizona families interested in helping vulnerable Arizona foster children who have already suffered so much can consider the foster to adopt AZ children process. The foster to adopt AZ children process is not required, however, and foster children whose parental rights have been severed are available for direct adoption.

Adopting foster children is a wonderful way to grow a forever family for many reasons. First and foremost, these precious children deserve to be safe, loved, and have a bright future. No child in America should grow up in foster care – children flourish in families. Secondly, adoption from foster care is often faster and far less expensive than private adoption. And of course the best reason, is that it will change your family and the child’s life forever!

Building Arizona Families specializes in helping Arizona families adopt foster children through our Forever Families U.S. Adoption Program. As a licensed adoption agency, we have been serving prospective adoptive families since 2004. We are located in Phoenix, AZ but are able to provide adoptive services of foster children from every state, not just Arizona. The adoptive family must be located in Arizona, but the child is not required to be a foster child in Arizona.
